Don't listen to Fahmi, PAS will join polls campaign, says Bersatu leader

KKB BY-ELECTION | PAS will still participate in Perikatan Nasional candidate Khairul Azhari Saut’s by-election campaign throughout the next two weeks, said Bersatu vice-president Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

He was responding to PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil who questioned the absence of PAS leaders during nomination for the Kuala Kubu Baharu polls two days ago.

“I ask the media not to listen to the communications minister (Fahmi). PAS had indeed planned the Aidilfitri Open House in Perlis earlier.

“Therefore, on the day of the nomination, they had various meetings planned in Perlis,” Radzi (above) said, referring to the PAS central open house event held in Kangar on Saturday.

“InsyaAllah, they will work hard to ensure PN’s victory in Kuala Kubu Baharu,” he told reporters when met in Batang Kali yesterday.

Earlier, Fahmi noted the presence of top PAS leaders in Perlis compared to the by-election’s nomination and wondered what the Islamist party was trying to convey with its “interesting” action.

Not focusing only on Malays

Radzi emphasised that PAS leaders had started campaigning yesterday.

“Many have started to come down. Today (yesterday) was a warm-up day and we will mobilise our entire machinery and ensure a PN victory on May 11,” the Putrajaya MP said.

He also denied that PN was only focusing on appealing to Malay voters.

“In the context of a by-election, it does not consider race. Whoever comes out to vote, they are the ones we want to vote for us.

“However, data shows that Malay voters are with PN. If we increase their presence (to come out and vote), it will add to our votes,” he added.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency is a mixed seat with a voter breakdown of Malays (46 percent), Chinese (30 percent), Indians (18 percent), and others (6 percent).

Khairul will face Pang Sock Tao from Pakatan Harapan, Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM), and Nyau Ke Xin (independent).

The by-election is held following the death of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21 due to cancer.
