Cuepacs: Address weaknesses but no need to upload video of criticism

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has called on all parties including government leaders to work as a team towards overall improvements for the people.

Its president Adnan Mat said while all advice and criticisms towards civil servants are welcomed, there was no need for such matters to be recorded on video and shared on social media.

“What more if it (the recording) was done by a government leader in a position to jointly resolve any issues that arise,” he said.

“If there are weaknesses in the standards of service, criticise and give advice face to face. That is reasonable and acceptable.

“However, there is no need for the criticisms to be followed up with a recording uploaded on social media, just to inform that ‘we’ have done something,” Adnan (above) said in reference to critics.

While Cuepacs reaffirmed the commitment of the civil service to its duties, Adnan urged all parties to not exploit any weaknesses as an opportunity for them to gain popularity.

While Adnan did not mention names, it is understood the statement was a response to Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s recently reported altercation with a Malacca Islamic Religious Department officer (Jaim) and state government officer.

The Merlimau assemblyperson earlier this week posted a video on his Facebook of his heated conversation with an ustaz from Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Ayer Merbau, Jasin - followed by a phone call to Malacca state finance officer Salhah Salleh.

Akmal, who is also a state executive councillor, questioned the delay in the purchase of tables and chairs for the school’s pupils, despite approvals given five months ago.
