The public has been reminded that while there can be no compromise with the atrocities committed against Palestinians, any acts of solidarity must be based on truth and manners.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar called on all parties not to take “extreme actions” against those they disagreed with.

“What more when it involves slander, foul words, threats, and others,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

He was responding to the “Blockout 2024” movement on social media, calling for a boycott of high-profile personalities who failed to raise awareness of the ongoing genocide.

“All parties are urged to always maintain harmony when living as a society.

“Any actions with the potential to trigger public unrest must be avoided at all costs,” Na’im added.

The movement involves social media users blocking the accounts of certain celebrities including on X, TikTok, and Instagram.

The celebrities comprise those accused of ignoring the humanitarian crisis or who promote brands that have been boycotted for their involvement with Israel.

The campaign, which has targeted figures such as Taylor Swift, has seen Malaysians turn on the heat at local celebrities, including songstress Ning Baizura.
