Questions arise over 'senior civil servant' given PKR leadership post

An aide to Opposition Leader Hamzah Zainudin has questioned the appointment of a senior civil servant from Negeri Sembilan as one of PKR’s three new central leadership council (MPP) members.

Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli highlighted the appointment of Roslan Hussin - the Negeri Sembilan state education director - as PKR’s new MPP member with the post of training director.

“This is clearly a senior civil servant holding a high position in a political party,” said Ikhwan.

He then cited a 2009 Public Service Department circular that banned senior civil servants from participating in active politics, including holding positions in a political party.

He also claimed that checks on PKR’s website showed a party member named “Roslan Hussin”, with the same phone number as the Negeri Sembilan education director.

Roslan’s appointment was announced by PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil on Sunday (May 26), along with changes to the party’s state chiefs, which was decided in an MPP meeting.

When contacted, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who is the PKR Women’s chief, said she was informed by Roslan that he was unaware of the appointment.

“Roslan personally informed me he was not notified of his appointment. He does not know anything.

“He did not receive any appointment letter or any official information,” Fadhlina told Malaysiakini in a message through her aide.

“This issue is being scrutinised (by the Education Ministry). Existing guidelines will be referred to,” she said.

Malaysiakini has contacted Roslan for comment.

Earlier today, the Negeri Sembilan Education Department in a Facebook post said a fake poster was being circulated using its name, purportedly congratulating Roslan over his appointment as a PKR MPP member.

“After verification, the poster was not issued by any sector, unit, or division education officer under the Negeri Sembilan Education Department.

“Therefore, the Negeri Sembilan Education Department is not responsible for any negative implications from the circulation of the poster,” it said.
