Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today reminded state assemblypersons of their duty and obligation to work for the people's well-being.

He said the post and the honorific 'Yang Berhormat' title that goes with it were not merely glamorous names but came with a heavy responsibility to fight for the people.

"If you're not willing to fight for the people, don't ever offer yourselves as the people's representatives," he was quoted as saying by Bernama .

"Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblyperson must be willing to slave, serve and fight for the people...don't hanker for glamour or for adoration at functions without doing any work," he said.

He said elected representatives must always be close to the hearts of the people because they were the government's front liners in taking care of bread and butter issues like land and house applications and welfare.

The Four Js

"If we can help a person until he gets what he wants...we shake hands and look at his face. That's the greatest satisfaction," added the deputy premier.

Najib said the help extended was also a form of charity which was more rewarding than becoming famous.

He also reminded state assemblyperson to practise the four "J" concept of looking after themselves, the people, their constituencies and their party.

He said BN could achieve outstanding victory in the next general election if they practise this concept.

"Besides that, we must also look after our colleagues from the component parties, like if we have allocations for Umno, we should also give them fairly to MCA and Gerakan and vice versa in the genuine spirit of BN," he added.
