Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman ended his 200km marathon outside the Parliament building today at 9.30am.

His run which began in Muar on Friday (June 28) was to call for government allocations for constituencies held by opposition MPs.

He also aimed to raise donations during the event, which would be channelled to his constituents.

“Alhamdulillah, the total amount raised so far for the Muar Parliament service centre has reached RM160,000, way beyond the RM100,000 target,” he said.

“I checked the data yesterday and more than 2,000 Malaysians donated.

“Not only through online donations, but while I was running, there were people who stopped and gave RM50, RM100, RM10... One kid even gave RM1, and that is extraordinary,” said the former Muda president.

As he was reaching the finish line, Syed Saddiq was greeted by Muda supporters, opposition MPs, and protestors.

Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal were seen joining him on the last 5km leg of his run.

Supporters carried placards demanding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration fulfil its promises, including providing equal constituency allocation for opposition-held seats.

There were also some protesting the government’s policy on retirement fund withdrawals.

Syed Saddiq also thanked other opposition MPs who greeted him, including Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, Ketereh MP Khlir Mohd Nor, Langkawi MP Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah, and Pendang MP Awang Solahuddin Hashim.

‘It’s about the people’s suffering’

The former youth and sports minister’s run was punctuated by seven stops across Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor.

To prevent allegations of cheating, the run was live-streamed on social media.

The longest stretch Syed Saddiq ran was 39km, or 3km short of a full marathon.

“Don’t punish the people because of ‘political colours’. Thank you opposition MPs.

“This is not about MPs but it’s about the people’s suffering,” he stressed.

Speaking to reporters, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal claimed allocations for opposition seats were “sidetracked” to local government representatives.

“In Machang, the ones getting funds are Umno, PKR, and Amanah village chiefs.

“We don’t know how the funds that reached them are audited,” he claimed.

In the last Dewan Rakyat session in March, Opposition Leader Hamzah Zainudin said he received a draft from the government on the allocation requests for their respective constituencies.
