PAS refutes claims of rift with Bersatu

PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has firmly dismissed allegations of tension between the party and its Perikatan Nasional ally, Bersatu.

The controversy arose when Amar attended an event in Sungai Bakap where an image of the coalition logo was pixelated.

“It’s nonsense. We have no problems (with Bersatu),” he was quoted by Free Malaysia Today saying.

Amar explained that the PN logo was intentionally blurred to highlight the speaker, emphasising that such adjustments are normal practice.

“Blurring out the background is normal, so what’s the issue?” he questioned.

Earlier, Azmi Hassan, a fellow at the National Council of Professors, suggested to the news portal that tensions between PAS and Bersatu seemed more noticeable following photos shared by Amar on Facebook on June 24.

Azmi pointed out that these strained relations between the two PN parties surfaced during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign two months ago, where a Bersatu candidate lost to Pakatan Harapan.

The Sungai Bakap by-election on July 6 is a straight fight between PN candidate Abidin Ismail and Harapan’s Joohari Ariffin following the passing of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
