‘Biased Harapan propaganda’: Sanusi dismisses IDE survey findings

SUNGAI BAKAP BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor dismissed a survey by Darul Ehsan Institute (IDE) that found Sungai Bakap voters preferred Pakatan Harapan’s candidate.

According to the Kedah menteri besar, IDE is a propaganda tool for Harapan.

“IDE is a Harapan propaganda tool. They work for PKR, so all their studies will be biased. IDE is biased.

“There are no more IDE surveys that are objective, they are all biased,” he told Malaysiakini after attending a sepak raga tuju game with the Kampung Besar community in Nibong Tebal today.

Sanusi said this when asked to comment on the survey findings announced by IDE yesterday. The think tank is owned by the Harapan-led Selangor government.

Malaysiakini reported that the survey found voter preferences in the Sungai Bakap state constituency favoured Harapan candidate Joohari Ariffin over PN candidate Abidin Ismail.

However, IDE chairperson Mohammad Redzuan Othman said support for a party does not necessarily guarantee victory for the party’s candidate.

“Based on the study conducted, the trend or support is indeed in Harapan or the (federal) government’s favour.

“But, I want to emphasise that this support depends on the remaining four days of the campaign.

“Both parties are implementing their strategies and support for the party does not necessarily translate to victory,” he said at a press conference in Shah Alam, Selangor, yesterday.

‘PN will win again’

When asked whether PN could retain the seat, Sanusi asserted that their candidate would win in the polls on Saturday.

“PN will win again, God willing, based on our work and findings, God willing.

“Young people, Malays, are not abandoning PN. We will win, God willing, we’ll pray a lot and keep up the efforts,” he said.

The Sungai Bakap by-election is being held following the death of its PAS representative Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 after he was hospitalised due to stomach inflammation.
