Sg Udang rep dares Malacca CM to dissolve state assembly

Sungai Udang assemblyperson Mohd Aleef Yusof has challenged Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh to dissolve the state assembly.

Responding to Rauf’s assertion that Malacca Umno will reclaim the Sungai Udang seat in the next general election, Aleef urged him to dissolve the assembly immediately and face a by-election.

“I challenge Tanjung Bidara assemblyperson (Rauf) to dissolve the state assembly now, and let’s contest in the by-election.

“There’s no point in crowing (berkokok) when dreaming is free anyway,” Aleef said in a statement.

Earlier, Rauf, who is also Malacca Umno chairperson, expressed the party’s determination to secure the Sungai Udang seat in the upcoming election.

He highlighted past successes in three other constituencies under the Tangga Batu parliamentary constituency, namely Klebang, Paya Rumput, and Pantai Kundor, despite the defeat in Sungai Udang.

Slim win

In the 15th state election, Aleef won the Sungai Udang seat with a 530-vote margin against BN’s Mohamad Ali Mohamad.

Commenting further, Aleef emphasised Rauf’s detachment from the ground realities in Sungai Udang.

He suggested this could jeopardise Umno’s prospects not only in Sungai Udang but also in the other three seats.

“Does Tanjung Bidara lack informants among the people to gauge public sentiment? Has Tanjung Bidara not carefully assessed the situation?” Aleef questioned, referring to Rauf by the name of his constituency.

BN holds the largest number of state seats in Malacca, with 21 seats, followed by Harapan, with five, and Perikatan Nasional, with two.

In the 15th state election, Umno won 18 out of 20 contested seats.

Apart from Sungai Udang, the party also lost Bukit Katil to Amanah with a majority of 1,057 votes.

Bersatu contested 15 seats and holds both PN seats, namely Sungai Udang and Bemban.
