Gerakan's approach to win Chinese support is wrong, Tuan Ibrahim says

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man is lecturing Gerakan on the right and wrong ways to win over Chinese support.

Specifically, the PAS leader was cited by Harakahdaily as saying that Gerakan president Dominic Lau’s defence of brewery companies being involved in fundraising for Chinese schools is wrong.

“Whether Chinese, Malay, or others, moral values need to be given attention and no specific community should ignore moral values because we are all Malaysians,” he added.

He further opined that elements that bring harm to society should not be normalised.

Lau on Saturday supported vernacular schools working with breweries to organise fundraising events.

The party’s view is that such fundraisers are necessary because Chinese schools have not been given sufficient funds by the federal government to continue their operations.

Tuan Ibrahim, however, believed that as a senior Perikatan Nasional leader, Lau should uphold good values.

“We (PN) need to realise that this issue is not our (the opposition’s) problem, but the government’s problem.

“The government should resolve this (crisis) and we (PN) remain firm in our principles,” he said.

Yesterday, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, in expressing disappointment in Lau’s stance, warned that Gerakan may be dropped from PN in the next general election.

Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong in turn said that the party would not hesitate to quit PN if it is forced to abide by “extreme” conservative demands.
