FT mufti: Labelling non-Muslims 'kafir harbi' an extreme act

The term “kafir harbi” cannot be used against any non-Muslim citizens in this country as it does not meet the definition and characteristics set by religious scholars, the Federal Territories mufti's office said.

According to the mufti, the term, which is used against non-Muslims who oppose Islam, carries horrible implications for the receiver as it makes it “halal” to fight with them and also puts their safety and their properties’ security in jeopardy.

“This label cannot be used on any non-Muslim citizen in a country which respects its constitution and abides by its laws.

“Therefore, the act of labelling some citizens of the country with such title is an extreme and outrageous work,” read the statement uploaded online.

This was in reference to a Bachok PAS member who used the term “kafir harbi” against DAP during a ceramah session in Nenggiri earlier this week.

Perikatan Nasional’s Nenggiri election operations director Annuar Musa said the individual has been “suspended” from campaigning for three days to enable the temperature to “cool down a bit”.

Elaborating, the FT mufti office said the term “kafir harbi” referred to non-Muslims who fight and commit atrocities against Muslims.

“If we were to give context, the term may as well refer to Zionists and Israel which is at war against Muslims and are driving them out of their homes and countries.”
