NENGGIRI BY-ELECTION | Umno information chief Azalina Othman Said has reminded voters today that while land matters are under the state government's purview, development projects remain under the federal government.

As such, ahead of polling day this weekend, she said voters should elect an assemblyperson capable of raising their voice with Putrajaya.

"I want to remind the people of Nenggiri that many matters are under the federal government's purview. Although this land belongs to the state government, the implementation of drainage, hospitals, courts, court upgrades are all under the authority of the federal government.

"When we elect an assemblyperson to represent the voice of the federal government, it is easier.

“If you look at the Nenggiri area, the lag (in terms of development) has happened since 2018 when the victory was given to another party, not the BN government," she told reporters while on the campaign trail in Kampung Limau Kasturi, Gua Musang.

The issue of land, especially involving South Kelantan Development Board (Kesedar) settlers, has been a focus of candidates contesting for the state seat under the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Nassuruddin Daud previously claimed that only the PAS-led state government can resolve Kesedar settlers’ issues.

However, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed that the Kesedar settlers' land belonged to the federal body and was managed by the board.

BN win will be a bridge

Azalina said the Kelantan government will not fall if Perikatan Nasional wins the Nenggiri state seat on Aug 17.

However, she said the victory of BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani could be a bridge connecting the state representative with the federal government.

"PAS state government will not fall if BN wins. Their leadership is still there. If BN wins, we want the connection between the assemblyperson and the federal government.

"I hope the voters will choose someone with experience who can help develop the area and will focus on service," she added.

The Nenggiri by-election this Saturday will see Azmawi going up against PN's Mohd Rizwadi Ismail from Bersatu.
