Asia Mobiliti probe to be completed in two months - Azam

MACC expects to complete a probe into the awarding of a demand-responsive transit (DRT) project to a company linked to a minister's husband within two months.

Its chief commissioner Azam Baki said the investigation is ongoing and the anti-graft agency is looking into the governance issues as well.

"We have to also look into several matters to be improved in the future, notably on the governance issue when it involves relatives.

"I think the investigation will be wrapped up in a month or two," Azam (above) was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

The issue arose after the Selangor government awarded the contract to Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti).

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s spouse Ramachandran Muniandy is the company’s co-founder along with Malaysiakini director and former CEO Premesh Chandran.

Initially, Azam dismissed a need to probe Asia Mobiliti as Yeoh was not involved in the decision-making process.

However, an investigation was subsequently launched after the MACC obtained “new leads”.

They were over the possibility of power abuse and non-compliance with Treasury directives by the Selangor government in awarding the DRT project.

The Selangor government had directly awarded the Klang Valley DRT project to Asia Mobiliti and another company - Badanbas Coach Sdn Bhd.

The state government reportedly allocated RM2.1 million to the two companies for the project.

Yeoh had welcomed the probe and said she had kept silent on the matter as she did not want to be seen as interfering with investigations.
