Missing boys found trapped in apartment lift for 9 hours

Two 11-year-old boys were trapped inside an apartment lift for nine hours in Desa Petaling, Cheras yesterday before building security noticed their ordeal and rescued them this morning.

The friends reportedly went out to buy food when the lift they were in suddenly got stuck, prompting the boys to call for help but to no avail.

It was learned that the incident had prompted a search after the boys' families lodged police reports over their disappearance without realising that they were in the building's lift.

Cheras district police chief Ravindar Singh Sarban Singh said the boys were found when a security officer checked the building's CCTV live feed.

"A security officer only realised that the victims were inside the lift after he viewed (the building) CCTV.

"The security officer then opened the lift doors," he said.

Safe but tired

A relative of one of the victims told Sinar Harian that the boys were found safe but they were hungry and sleepy.

Identified only as Ina, the aunt said her nephew had gone out about 2pm yesterday to meet his friend and buy steamed buns together.

However, the family grew worried when he failed to return home after several hours which prompted them to search around the area.

The boys were found at 1am this morning after the lift doors were opened, she said.
