Let Wanita Umno contest in Mahkota, Zahid’s daughter pleads

Umno delegate Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid has appealed for the Mahkota state seat in Johor to be retained for a Wanita Umno candidate, amid requests from Umno Youth and others.

Nurulhidayah, the eldest daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said it is reasonable for a female candidate to be fielded in seats considered an easy path for BN to win.

However, the Wanita Umno executive council member insisted she did not intend to interfere in the highest affairs of the party.

“We (Wanita Umno) are not very demanding either. What we meant was for us to be fielded in seats that are easy to win.

“Let the man be placed at difficult seats because according to the logic of nature and man, men are stronger.

"Openly and without intending to interfere in the affairs of Umno's top leadership, we request and plead that the Umno president who is also the BN chairperson consider putting a female candidate in Mahkota," she said.

Umno Youth’s demands

Previously, Umno Youth had also requested for the Mahkota seat to be given to the wing’s candidate.

However, Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad said another woman candidate should contest the seat following the death of its incumbent, Kluang Umno Wanita chief Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.

Nurulhidayah also noted that the Mahkota seat has traditionally been contested by a woman from BN.

“I can only be a representative of women's voices to seek a seat to contest because I know I’m not eligible to apply for a seat in Bagan Datuk.

“But if you want to give way to me, I won't refuse," she said jokingly.
