Palestinian flag not flown during parade, stop spreading lies - Teo

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching has refuted claims that a Palestinian flag was flown during the National Day parade on Aug 31.

Taking to Facebook, she noted that some people have been making such allegations.

Posting a photograph of two military helicopters with flags attached, she said: “The Truth: The flag in question is actually the (Royal) Malaysian Armed Forces flag (Bendera Angkatan Tentera Malaysia).”

“Let's stop spreading lies and misinformation and focus on the true spirit of Hari Kebangsaan – unity. Please do your research before sharing anything online,” she added.

Teo also included an image of the RMAF flag and a screenshot of the viral message with the word “fake” stamped across it.

The fake message read: “Palestinian flag during Malaysian Independence Day flypast? Disgusting armed forces we have.

“Never has any sovereign country flown another country’s flag during its independence day celebration. There has to be a limit for everything, including stupidity.”

Previously, certain quarters attempted to turn the National Day parade into a racial issue over the “welcome” greeting in Chinese, asking if this was the independence celebration of Malaysia or China.

Subsequently, Teo rebutted this, explaining that the “human graphic” performance involving more than 2,300 students was in three languages, including Bahasa Malaysia and Tamil.
