Our suppliers have halal certification - Johnny's, Black Canyon

The managements of Johnny’s Restaurants and Black Canyon Malaysia have admitted to not having the official halal certification from the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

“Currently, Johnny’s Restaurants and Black Canyon Malaysia have yet to receive halal certification from Jakim.

“However, all raw items, including chicken, eggs, and meat are obtained from suppliers with halal certification.

“The copies of these certificates are at our outlets, if needed (for reference),” the eateries said in a joint statement today.

Jakim yesterday confirmed as claimed in a viral letter that Johnny’s Restaurants, Black Canyon, Dolly Dim Sum, Mr Dakgalbi, and Bungkus Kaw Kaw do not hold the Malaysian Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM).

The federal government agency also said only four out of 15 Ayam Penyet Best outlets in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are halal-certified.

Jakim issued the statement following a query on the halal status of the eateries received through the civil service’s public complaints system (SISPAA).

No alcohol used

In the joint statement, Johnny's Restaurant and Black Canyon assured that there is no alcohol used in the preparation of food or beverages at their outlets.

“Both companies are aware of the importance of halal certification to customers and are working hard toward securing it from Jakim for our central kitchen, and individual certificates for branches.

“Johnny’s Restaurants and Black Canyon Malaysia hope that this explanation will ease the concerns of customers.

“As always, priority is given to preparing delicious, authentic and safe Thai food for all Malaysians, and customers who have put their trust in the two restaurants,” the statement read.

Separately, Free Malaysia Today quoted Dolly Dim Sum saying in a statement that its central kitchen holds halal certification from Jakim.

The company also assured that it is in the process of obtaining halal certification for each of its branches.
