PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth mocked the “unity government” in Putrajaya for being disunited.

Wing chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden also cited the letter of demand that Seputeh MP Teresa Kok sent to Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh as proof that DAP is running the show.

“Within the unity government itself there is no unity. Today Kok sent a letter of demand to the Umno Youth chief, even though they are in the same government.

“This should not have happened, but this shows DAP’s ‘big brother’ attitude and that they are the ones pulling the strings,” Afnan (above) said at a press conference after officiating the 65th PAS Youth Muktamar in Kerdau, Temerloh, last night.

Kok is demanding RM25 million in damages and an apology from Akmal over the latter’s attacks against the DAP lawmaker over the mandatory halal certification issue.

Kok had said that the proposal to make halal certification mandatory for restaurants and food companies that do not serve pork and alcohol would burden businesses and could make Malaysia an object of ridicule.

In response, Akmal called the Seputeh MP an “old Nyonya” who should not have interfered in Islamic affairs and said he would ask the government to prepare a non-halal logo to stick to her forehead.

Afnan added that the move by some to distance Kok’s views from the Madani coalition was also a sign of disunity.

“So when they don’t care about unity (among themselves), how can they foster unity among the people?” he asked.

Chiming in, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man claimed that in contrast, there are almost no issues of disunity among the races in Kelantan, which the party has governed since 1990.

“We have a model of governance in Kelantan, where there are almost no racial issues.

“We can see how the non-Muslims live, we allow them to worship, the tallest Buddha statue (in Malaysia) is also in Kelantan, they can practise their faith and respect one another,” he said.
