PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden has laughed off reporters asking him about a proposal to use mixed-race marriages for the party to get non-Malay support.

“That’s his view as a delegate in the muktamar. He has the right to express his opinion.

“It doesn’t necessarily become a decision. That’s just his view,” said the Alor Setar MP with a laugh during a press conference after the PAS Youth muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang, this evening.

During the debate session of the muktamar this morning, Selangor PAS Youth secretary Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim said such marriages could win the party hundreds of votes.

“Selangor (PAS Youth) members have a suggestion. Too bad the PAS Youth chief is not here right now to listen to this idea.

“We want to suggest that leaders of this youth wing commit cross-ethnic or cross-cultural marriage.

“The reason is that when we marry someone from another ethnicity or culture, we would not win only one more vote, but insyaAllah, we will be able to get 10 or even hundreds of votes from the non-Malays or non-Muslims,” he remarked, to laughter from the floor.

Adding further, the Selangor PAS Youth delegate “challenged” Afnan and his central committee members to take up the suggestion.

Pressed by reporters later on whether the PAS Youth chief would consider the proposal, Afnan burst into laughter.

“These are all trick questions. My wife is watching online right now,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, Aubidullah also urged PAS Youth members to start getting votes from youths by using platforms that are popular among that age group.

This includes e-sports, which he said has a large following, and PAS Youth can get party members familiar with this activity to engage with its fans.
