Harapan Youth to PN: For people’s sake, end drama over MOU

Pakatan Harapan Youth has censured the opposition for rejecting the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on allocations for its MPs and urged it to end the “drama”.

The wing’s information chief, Ammar Atan, accused Perikatan Nasional of prioritising its political interests over the people’s well-being.

“A move which is supposed to bring political stability has turned into an endless political drama.

“The people, who have been waiting for a solution, are now served with rhetoric and political games,” he added in a statement this morning.

Amar pointed out that while Deputy Prime Minister II Fadhillah Yusof has explained that the MOU aims to create political stability, PN rejected it without providing counter proposals.

“This shows PN is more focused on political divisions as opposed to solutions for the benefit of the people.

“The political stability promised by the MOU is important for economic recovery. However, PN continues to play political games, and this shows that it disregards public interest in its political goals.

“Stop the drama, the people need a solution now,” he added.

Deal rejected but door still open

On Sunday, opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin stated that PN declined to sign the MOU for four reasons.

He said the draft appeared to conflict with the Federal Constitution, especially regarding the special rights of the Malay and bumiputera.

He also alleged that it contained conditions perceived as clashing with traditional, cultural and moral values and local norms.

Following this, Fadhillah released the drafts of the MOUs, which he said detailed the government's obligations, recognising that opposition MPs play an important role by displaying loyalty towards the country, the Federal Constitution and the royal institution and also providing responsible and legitimate checks and balances.

Yesterday, he said the opposition can submit new proposals or feedback, adding that the the existing draft can serve as a basis for these discussions.

On Wednesday, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan requested the government to provide a new draft MOU and to establish a special committee for the government and the opposition to discuss the matter.
