MYAirline ordered to wind up over RM241k debt

The Shah Alam High Court has ordered the winding-up of MYAirline concerning an unpaid debt of over RM241,000.
The civil court on Thursday last week allowed the petition by Corporate Information Travel Sdn Bhd against the troubled air carrier.
According to a copy of the winding-up order, judicial commissioner Raja Rozela Raja Toran gave the green light after hearing submissions from the petitioner’s counsel from law firm M Menon & Partners.
The order noted that MYAirline did not send any legal representatives to last week’s hearing despite the carrier having been served copies of the petition.
Besides allowing the winding up petition per the Companies Act 1965, Raja Rozela also appointed Tee Guan Pian of UHY Insolvency Services to be the liquidator of MYAirline Sdn Bhd.
According to a copy of the petition, Corporate Information Travel previously obtained a judgment in default of appearance from the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Feb 26.
The petitioner then served its demand on MYAirline on March 20, but 21 days later the carrier allegedly neglected to pay the sum.
Malaysiakini is reaching out to MYAirline for a response over the winding-up court order.
‘Significant financial pressures’
In October last year, MYAirline abruptly suspended its operations, citing the company was experiencing “significant financial pressures” barely a year after its maiden flight.
Subsequently, the Malaysian Aviation Commission suspended the Air Service Licence of MYAirline on Nov 1.
On Aug 16, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered MYAirline to pay over RM17 million in overdue airport service charges.
Judicial commissioner Gan Techiong issued a summary judgment (verdict without a full trial) for the carrier to pay RM9.1 million to Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd and RM8.36 million to Malaysia Airports Sdn Bhd.
