Govt already passed confidence vote in 2022 - PKR Youth chief

The validity of today’s government has already been proven via a vote of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat, said PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abd Halim.

He also said the process of establishing the federal administration was based on open negotiations, which were closely followed by observers since its inception.

However, if the opposition is still not convinced about the government’s legitimacy, Adam said they can propose a vote of no-confidence at the next Dewan Rakyat session.

The youth and sports deputy minister was commenting on PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s claim that government MPs were bound by an agreement when the confidence motion was brought to Parliament in 2022.

Fadhli had called for the government to “free all government MPs” of binding agreements so they could vote freely in Parliament.

Adam, in response, called for a no-confidence motion to be brought in Parliament, instead of making announcements at PAS muktamar sessions.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during a speech in Kuala Lumpur last night, challenged the opposition to raise a motion of no-confidence against him at next month’s Dewan Rakyat session.

The PKR president said the opposition should follow the law and not just play with sentiments by calling him to step down.

Anwar passed a motion of confidence tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 19, 2022, confirming his legitimacy as the prime minister leading the federal administration.
