Bersatu polls: Hamzah new deputy president, Peja running for veep

Bersatu party polls set later this month will see its top two positions going uncontested, where incumbent president Muhyiddin Yassin will continue to be at the helm while current secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin is set to be his deputy.

Bersatu party elections committee deputy chairperson Saiful Adli Arshad told a press conference earlier today that they only received one nomination each for the party president and deputy president posts.

Outgoing deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, meanwhile, has been named among the six contenders for the three vice-president posts against incumbent Ronald Kiandee and Mohd Radzi Jidin.

Others eyeing to become vice-president are current Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, supreme council member Mohd Rafiq Abdullah and A'ziss Zainal Abiddin, who is Batu Kawan Bersatu division chief.

Rina drops out

Another position that is set to be won uncontested is Bersatu women wing's chief, after its incumbent Rina Harun pulled out from the race against her current vice-chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

The committee did not reveal why Rina decided to rescind her nomination, with Faizal suggesting reporters contact the former minister for an answer.

For the Bersatu Youth chief post, Saiful said two candidates will be contesting - namely Muhammad Hilman Idham, who is Gombak state assemblyperson, and Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir.

Incumbent Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has previously announced that he would not defend his post and is among 80 candidates who are running for the party's supreme leadership council seat.

Incumbent Bersatu Srikandi Muda chief (young women's wing) Nurul Fadzilah Kamaluddin will be defending the seat against her current vice-chief Hefvihervina Rohayu Hariyanto and its Perak chapter chief Nurul Ezzati Azmi.

Bersatu Associates wing chief Chong Fat Full, meanwhile, is challenged by its committee member K Vasantha Kumar.
