Three 'iron ladies', KL Strike Force to keep city safe - Zaliha

PARLIAMENT | Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Zaliha Mustafa has pledged the commitment of "three iron ladies" in charge of Kuala Lumpur, together with a multi-agency KL Strike Force, towards a long-term goal for a safer, cleaner and sustainable city.

Zaliha (above, centre) identified the three "iron ladies" as herself, Kuala Lumpur mayor Maimunah Mohamad Sharif (above, left) and Federal Territories Department director-general Noridah Abdul Rahim (above, right).

"InsyaAllah, we will see KL clean from all matters of concern to the residents. I would also like to give a reminder, 'Don't try to be funny' in KL," she said during Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.

Responding to Zahir Hassan (Harapan-Wangsa Maju), Zaliha said 781 individuals comprising 149 locals and 632 foreigners were nabbed between May and September this year in KL Strike Force raids on 209 premises offering prostitution services.

"It is inaccurate to state there is no reduction in prostitution cases in Kuala Lumpur because the data for 2023 showed only 159 raids and 540 arrests, in comparison to (only) the third quarter of this year," she said.

However, she said challenges faced include a crackdown on new prostitution "hotspots" where syndicates were found to advertise such "services" at eateries around Kuala Lumpur.

Zaliha added the KL Strike Force, which she oversees as its advisor, had also acted against business premises operated illegally by foreigners and issued permanent shutdown notices, aside from compounds and confiscation of wares.

The KL Strike Force was formed in May this year as a special unit to coordinate all multi-agency raids.
