'Bebas Bossku!': Supporters gather outside court complex

Supporters of former premier Najib Abdul Razak, who is also known as “Bossku”, are gathering outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex.

Some were spotted wearing T-shirts, pins and scarves with Najib’s image. Earlier, a small group of supporters chanted “Bebas Najib” (Free Najib) and “Allahuakbhar” (Allah is great).

The criminal court will decide if the former premier must answer for 25 counts of abuse of power and money laundering on a separate matter involving RM2.27 billion from 1MDB or if the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case.

Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh called on supporters to be present at the court to show support for Najib, who is serving a six-year prison sentence for his conviction in the SRC International case.

The former premier is also seeking a judicial review regarding an alleged addendum on his house arrest.

On July 3, the Kuala Lumpur High Court rejected the former Pekan MP’s leave application to commence judicial review regarding the alleged addendum after ruling that the four affidavits supporting his claim, including from Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and party vice-president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, were hearsay.

The Court of Appeal fixed Dec 5 to hear Najib’s appeal on the dismissal of his leave application.

On Oct 24, Najib apologised for the 1MDB scandal but maintained his innocence, claiming that he was duped by fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, as well as Petrosaudi executives Patrick Mahoney and Tarek Obaid.

This came in the wake of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who welcomed his predecessor’s apology, revealing during his Budget 2025 speech a week earlier that the government would draft a House Arrest Bill, which ignited speculation that it is related to Najib.
