Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has suggested that the Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSSC) on Finance probe allegations of a Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) top executive receiving a hefty bonus despite the company’s lacklustre performance.

“We can let the Finance PSSC handle this case and conduct their proceedings. We should place our trust in them to carry out any necessary investigations,” she told Malaysiakini.

The Masjid Tanah MP said this in response to reports that PHB’s chief executive officer had received RM210,000 in bonus - equivalent to three months’ salary - despite the company achieving only 42 percent of its key performance indicators (KPIs).

It was also claimed that the company had planned a luxury overseas holiday for its employees, which was hastily cancelled following backlash from netizens.

Elaborating on her suggestion, Mas Ermieyati said PAC already has a lengthy list of cases awaiting consideration for investigation, in addition to ongoing proceedings.

"For this particular case, I'm raising it for the relevant government authorities to investigate and take appropriate action," she explained.

Proper channel

On that note, Mas Ermieyati urged the government to provide citizens with proper channels to voice their concerns if they have doubts about an investigation process.

Drawing parallels to the recent controversy involving Permodalan Nasional Berhad’s (PNB) investment in FashionValet Sdn Bhd, the PN MP urged PHB’s management to explain their decision to the public.

As of press time, PHB has yet to comment on the matter.

Yesterday, the MACC raided FashionValet’s office in Kuala Lumpur as part of investigations into the local fashion brand.

Four locations were raided simultaneously, said the anti-graft body in a TikTok video.

The losses sustained by Khazanah Nasional Berhad and PNB losses after investing public funds amounting to RM43.9 million are being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which governs the offence of providing false claims.

“This investigation is important because it is a public interest case,” said an MACC official in the video.
