Hadi should've retired but he's deified instead, says ex-PAS leader

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang should have been asked to hang up his boots, but his followers appear to idolise him, said former party vice-president Mohd Nakhaie Ahmad.

It appeared nobody in PAS was willing to confront Hadi and suggest he step down from politics and the party, he added.

“Hadi should have retired already but his followers are deifying him (angkat ke tahap dewa) instead.

“Nobody has the guts to tell him to do so,” Nakhaie (above) said on Facebook today.

Nakhaie, who left PAS and joined Umno in 1989, had also voiced scepticism over Hadi’s story that he had met the Prophet in his dreams.

The former Baling MP expressed concern that such a claim may lead Muslims astray.

This came after a video emerged of Hadi describing a dream in which Prophet Muhammad visited his village in Rusila, Marang, and urged him to reconcile the disputes between Sunni and Shia Muslims.

The video drew varied reactions, particularly from those who oppose PAS.

Islam not propagated based on dreams

Yesterday, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari came to Hadi's defence saying that his story was shared in a “family” context during a programme, and was not intended to elevate the PAS president or for self-praise.

He also emphasised that no one was forced to believe it.

“Even if we, his ‘children’ in PAS, choose to believe. What’s the issue? Why are you so worked up about it?” Fadhli had said.

Commenting further on the dream issue, Nakhaie explained that Islam is not propagated based on dreams but rather knowledge derived from the Quran and Sunnah.

“Unfortunately, a prominent figure with many followers in the name of Islam allows his followers to have impure thoughts, idolise leaders, and remain narrow-minded,” the Islamic Dakwah Foundation chief said.
