Budget 2025 passes first hurdle smoothly

PARLIAMENT | Budget 2025 passed the policy stage in the Dewan Rakyat with a voice vote today.

Lawmakers will now proceed with debating the budget at the committee stage starting tomorrow, with a final vote slated for Dec 3.

With over two-thirds support in the lower house, it is unlikely that the fiscal bill will run into any obstacles.

After that, the budget will go to the senate for approval.

The RM421 billion budget is the biggest one to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat thus far.

Part of the increase is to fund higher revised salaries and pensions for the civil service.
