Sabah Umno information chief Suhaimi Nasir is echoing calls by the party’s state chief Bung Moktar Radin for a thorough investigation into the series of video clips allegedly showing Sabah politicians engaging in corrupt acts.

“In line with the statement by Bung, I fully support a comprehensive investigation into the corruption scandal involving several Sabah representatives that has recently surfaced.

“These revelations must be investigated by the authorities, particularly the MACC, to hold both the bribe givers and receivers accountable. Justice and truth must prevail.

“This issue not only concerns integrity but also the trust of the people in Sabah’s leadership,” Umno Online quoted Suhaimi’s (above) statement.

On Friday, Bung urged the authority to probe both alleged graft giver and takers in the series of video clips, and denying Sabah Umno’s involvement in it.

“We’re not involved in this scandal. Right now, I see the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah leaders accusing that there are bribe givers. So, if there are bribe givers, that means there are also people being bribed, meaning both sides need to be investigated by the MACC.

“Solve it, investigate it. We want the MACC to investigate immediately because it is causing distrust among the people of Sabah. Many blogs are painting various stories, including linking Umno as the mastermind behind the circulation of this hot news," said Bung.

Commenting further, Suhaimi criticised certain parties for attempting to associate Sabah Umno with the scandal.

“I condemn the irresponsible dissemination of baseless information linking Sabah Umno to these scandals. I strongly deny such claims.

“Finally, we must provide ample space and respect the investigative process to ensure it is carried out thoroughly, meticulously, and fairly in accordance with the law without interference,” added the Libaran MP.

Bung's remarks took a different stand from Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who on Nov 12, said he would cooperate with the authorities on the allegations but called for the “bribe giver” to be arrested and probed first.

“We are asking the authorities to investigate. We will cooperate, but also investigate those who gave the bribes.

“The bribe giver has a bad intention of getting something from the government.

“When they fail, this (the audio recording) emerges. So, in my opinion, to be fair, arrest them and investigate them first,” Hajiji was reported as saying.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi defended Hajiji’s call for a probe into the scandal.

“I’ve seen the media reports on the videos and find other leaders should emulate Hajiji’s stand.

“As we all know, the Sabah government’s mandate will lapse in October next year and whatever happens will depend on the results of the authorities’ investigations,” said Zahid.
