Wee seeks deputy minister's answers, recalls DAP winning 'Taliban' votes

MCA president Wee Ka Siong is not convinced that Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh could be in the dark about his ministry hosting officials from Afghanistan’s Taliban-run government.

“This raises a question - how could the deputy minister, who holds influence and authority, not know about this?

“Given the close relationship between (Education Minister) Fadhlina (Sidek) and Wong, it seems unlikely that Wong would be completely unaware,” he added in a Facebook post.

The Ayer Hitam MP, who despite being in the coalition government with DAP, has never let slip an opportunity to take shots at MCA’s traditional nemesis, listed several questions for Wong.

“Does he agree with Fadhlina’s actions? Does he agree with the Taliban? Or is he just staying silent and avoiding the issue?” Wee asked.

On a sarcastic note, the MCA president said the deputy education minister might choose to respond in a parliamentary written reply.

“The answer is straightforward, so no need to provide a written reply,” he added.

Yesterday, DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng wanted the Education Ministry to explain the matter since Afghanistan is known for its restrictive access to education for women and girls.

Quizzed if DAP member Wong knew about the Afghanistan delegation visiting the ministry, he replied the deputy minister had yet to be informed of the matter.

‘Taliban’ state

In his post, Wee also recalled how a “certain political leader” while in the opposition often used the term “Taliban” in his ceramah to attack political opponents.

“This strategy has earned his party significant Chinese votes.

“Today, that very leader has been promoted to a cabinet minister, his party is now part of the government, and many of its leaders have also assumed ministerial and high-ranking positions,” he added.

Although the MCA president did not mention names, it was an obvious response to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

In 2019, Nga claimed if Umno and PAS worked together, it could turn Malaysia into a “Taliban” state.
