'This is all nonsense', Muhyiddin calls for end to Bersatu infighting

BERSATU AGM | Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has called for an end to infighting within the party following the conclusion of its internal polls earlier this month.

In his policy speech, Muhyiddin pledged to continue leading Bersatu to face the 16th general election and form the next federal government.

“Therefore, let us not be pitted against each other. There should not be among us whose ‘job’ is to ‘poke’ (instigate) here and there.

“(Don’t) make it seem like there is this camp and that camp, there is this group and that group to weaken and divide us.

“This is all nonsense. I will never condone this nonsense in our party,” he told delegates and guests from Perikatan Nasional component parties who were gathered at the Ideal Convention Centre Shah Alam for Bersatu’s seventh annual general assembly today.

Emphasising the need for Bersatu leaders and members across the party’s four wings to close ranks, Muhyiddin drove home the message that “trust, mutual respect, and a deep sense of understanding is the way forward”.

“We are united by this unbreakable bond of conviction to serve the nation and the rakyat above everything else.

“We will gain power and form a government by working together,” he stressed in his policy speech when opening the AGM.

Also present were Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin; vice-presidents Radzi Jidin, Ronald Kiandee, and Ahmad Faizal Azumu; as well as secretary-general Azmin Ali.

In an interview with Malaysiakini last week, Muhyiddin cited his success in arranging for the election of a “compromise team” to alleviate friction in the party.

He alluded to “arrangements” that included no contest for the top two party posts, as well as subsequent appointments of those who had agreed to sit out.

Among others, former Bersatu women chief Rina Harun, who made way for Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, has been appointed as the party’s treasurer-general.
