Whistleblower exposé: Sabah Umno wings call for Hajiji to resign, set up RCI

Sabah Umno wings have come out to demand Chief Minister Hajiji Noor’s resignation following a whistleblower exposé alleging several state leaders were involved in corruption.

Sabah Wanita Umno also demanded a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) be formed to probe the claims.

“Hajiji (above) must tender his resignation to ensure the state administration remains transparent and with integrity.

“We also call for the formation of RCI to probe the management of Sabah’s natural resources comprehensively,” its chief Noraini Idris said in a statement today.

After weeks of sending footage alleging that several Sabah state leaders were engaged in corruption, the whistleblower yesterday leaked seven full videos on the matter to Malaysiakini for publishing.

One of those implicated in the videos was Sabah Finance Minister Masidi Manjun, who had dismissed the allegations.

“I do not recall the conversation.

“What I remembered was that he (whistleblower) offered to donate to the party, and I responded there was no need for him to do so,” the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secretary-general said.

Others implicated include Sabah Deputy Chief Minister II Shahelmey Yahya, Tempasuk assemblyperson Mohd Arsad Bistari and Kemabong assemblyperson Rubin Balang.

Earlier, Hajiji claimed that the videos were aimed at discrediting and weakening his government.

He vowed full cooperation with MACC but insisted that the whistleblower, whose motives he questioned, be arrested and investigated.

Probe Sabah Mineral Management

Apart from Hajiji’s resignation, Sabah Umno Youth chief Sufian Abd Karim also urged the Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd to be investigated thoroughly and independently.

“And the details of the investigation must be made public to ensure Sabahans continue to have faith in the administration,” he said on Facebook today.

In a separate statement, Sabah Puteri Umno said the alleged misdeeds had tarnished the administration’s effort to ensure the state resources are managed efficiently, premised on social justice.

“The losses reflect the chief minister and GRS’ failure in protecting the people’s trust.

“Therefore, the chief minister must resign. The MACC and other relevant agencies must also conduct an independent investigation on Sabah Mineral Management and the leaders implicated in the video exposés,” its chief Ummi Nabilah Jamal stressed.
