Sabah rep claims video edited, appears 'kurang handsome'

Sabah assemblyperson Masiung Banah, who was one of those implicated in the alleged corruption scandal, has vowed not to flee.

In a video posted on his Facebook, the Kuamut representative said he had explained to the MACC about the video.

He also claimed that the video released by the whistleblower was not the full recording and appeared to give credence to the allegation that he received a bribe.

“I wish to appeal to the complainant (whistleblower) to provide the full recording to MACC. Come forward.

“Based on my observation, the video appears to be edited, some of the conversation was not included… and the storyline appears to favour the whistleblower.

“For example, I look ‘kurang handsome’ (less handsome) in the video when I am actually better looking,” he quipped.

Prepared to return

Masiung also said that he is prepared to return to MACC to record another statement if required to do so.

“I promise I won’t pretend to be ill, or ask for a postponement. I will be responsible,” he added.

However, Masiung, who thanked MACC for its professionalism, refused to divulge details about his statement.

“Let us leave it to the authorities to investigate,” he added.

Seven videos

In the video released by the whistleblower yesterday, Masiung was quizzed on how he intended to return the alleged RM400,000 given to him, to which the latter replied: “Tengok lah (We will see).”

“If I have it (the money), I will give it back. Because I don’t have it (right now),” he added.

Stressing that he is a “gentleman”, the whistleblower said: “I am only asking for the RM400,000 I gave you. Whatever I ‘sponsored’ no need (to pay back). Don’t misunderstand.”

This was one of seven videos released by the whistleblower. Each video featured a different assemblyperson.

The whistleblower, who is a businessperson, claimed that the assemblypersons had taken bribes from him to support his bid for a mineral exploration licence.

Last night, state Finance Minister Masidi Manjun, who was also implicated, voluntarily provided a statement to MACC.

He denied receiving the alleged RM300,000 bribe but was in the dark about the part in the recording where his aide asked the whistleblower to “reserve an extra RM1 million”.
