'Jawi to probe mosque loudspeaker complaints'

The Federal Territories Islamic Department (Jawi) has been asked to investigate complaints surrounding a mosque in Kuala Lumpur that has been turning up the volume during religious lectures.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan said he has complete faith in the department to do what is necessary to resolve the matter.

“There is a vehicle or authority (Jawi) in existence to take action. We do not want a situation which threatens harmony.

“InsyaAllah, this will be resolved amicably as soon as possible without causing uneasiness amongst the people,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Zulkifli was commenting on a complaint which has gone viral on social media about the mosque increasing the volume during the lectures, which some have claimed disturbed nearby residents.

Second wave of floods

In an unrelated matter, Bernama reported Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ayob Khan warning that action would be taken against individuals making false calls related to floods.

Police are on standby with personnel and assets for a second wave of floods in Kelantan, he added.

Earlier, it was reported that 19 villages located within a 5km radius of Sungai Nenggiri and Sungai Kelantan are expected to be hit by floods from Tuesday to Friday.

Yesterday, the Meteorological Department forecasted the onset of the second wave within the next two weeks, starting tomorrow, with Pahang and Johor among the states expected to be affected.
