The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state administration should be allowed to function as usual while authorities investigate corruption allegations against its leaders, according to the state PKR chapter.

Sabah PKR information chief Razeef Rakimin said political stability is critical for the state’s economic growth.

“If anyone is guilty of any wrongdoing, they must be brought to justice.

“But let the state government function as usual so that it can smoothly implement its plans, projects and activities to look after the welfare of the people,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Razeef’s statement came amid mounting pressure for Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor to step aside following a bribery scandal that rocked his administration.

Among those pushing for Hajiji to resign were Sabah Umno leaders, including state Umno Youth treasurer Mohd Naim Kurniawan Moktar who suggested that Deputy Chief Minister Jeffrey Kitingan be appointed interim chief minister to lead the state.

However, Jeffrey, who is also Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president, slammed the suggestion, saying that nobody has been brought to court yet - unlike some Umno leaders.

‘Efforts to destabilise Sabah govt’

The corruption scandal surfaced last month, with former Sabah Mineral Management (SMM) CEO Jontih Enggihon accusing Hajiji of abusing his power as the SMM chairperson.

In a video recorded on Oct 1, Jontih claimed Hajiji interfered with the selection process for prospecting licences to favour a specific contractor.

The video was one of several released by a whistleblower, implicating Sabah lawmakers in a series of corruption allegations.

Hajiji, however, had dismissed the corruption allegations as attempts to destabilise the state government and tarnish its reputation.
