PKR supreme council member Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he would consult his legal team before deciding on his next course of action in Zuraida Kamaruddin’s party hopping case.

This comes after the Court of Appeal lowered the quantum of payment to PKR substantially for breaking an electoral agreement.

“We do have another platform called the Federal Court.

“And I will consult my lawyers and study the court’s decision before deciding our next step,” he told reporters today after the monthly assembly at the Home Ministry today.

Saifuddin, as then PKR secretary-general, had initiated the suit against Zuraida in 2020 for breaching the party’s electoral pact by defecting.

Back then, Zuraida and several others lawmakers left PKR to join Perikatan Nasional, triggering the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeal deemed the RM10 million imposed on Zuraida - who was the Ampang MP - for breaching the bond too “exorbitant”.

See Mee Chun, who chaired a three-judge panel which also comprised Azman Abdullah and Ahmad Kamal Shahid, reduced the sum to RM100,000.

The court also awarded Zuraida RM40,000 in costs.

According to FMT, the former minister, on a sarcastic note, said she would consider the RM100,000 as a donation to PKR and would settle the amount in RM1 notes.

On that note, Saifuddin stressed that while the Court of Appeal had reduced the quantum, it did not overturn the decision against her.

“It means that PKR made the right call. It’s just that the quantum has changed,” the home minister added.
