Terengganu PAS says no info on why Samsuri resigned from PN post

Terengganu PAS has no information on why the party’s vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar resigned as Perikatan Nasional treasurer-general.

According to state PAS assistant secretary Hanafiah Mat, the party’s leadership in Terengganu does not know why Samsuri resigned.

“Can’t comment at all because we (Terengganu PAS) don’t know. Found out through WhatsApp.

“It seems like there’s no information at all about the said resignation,” he told Sinar Online.

On Wednesday (Dec 11), Samsuri (above), who is also the state menteri besar, announced his resignation from the PN position.

The resignation came just two days after the coalition’s supreme council confirmed six key appointments, including secretary-general, women’s chief, information chief, and supreme council members.

The meeting saw Bersatu retaining all six major positions in PN, despite PAS requesting that the secretary-general post be given to Takiyuddin Hassan, who is the PAS secretary-general.

Yesterday, Bersatu supreme council member Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal urged PAS to remain calm and not make any hasty decisions following Takiyuddin being sidelined from the position.

PN Women’s Wing chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who is from Bersatu, also acknowledged that she was shocked by Samsuri’s decision.

Meanwhile, Terengganu PAS commissioner Husain Awang said his party’s state leadership was not involved in Samsuri’s decision.

“I do not have any information (on Samsuri’s resignation),” he told the New Straits Times.

He added that Samsuri did not need to refer to Terengganu PAS in his decision to resign.

Fuelled speculation

Samsuri himself has kept silent on his reasoning, saying he will speak further on the matter at the right time.

This move has fuelled speculation that all is not well between the PN coalition’s biggest members.

As stated earlier, Bersatu currently holds all six major positions in PN, despite having fewer MP seats than PAS. Bersatu has 25 MPs, while PAS has 42.

During Bersatu’s recent annual general assembly, PN chairperson and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin acknowledged it was PAS’ right to want a prime ministerial candidate from the latter’s party.

However, the decision for the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate in the next general election will be made by all member parties, he explained.
