BN chief Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants his coalition members to work better as a team if they want to be a dominant force again.

He said this includes resolving disputes amicably.

“MCA and MIC have been our most steadfast allies. If we have differing opinions, let’s address them internally rather than through public statements,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.

“In a football team... the most important thing is that we cannot score an own goal.

“This happened in the 15th general election and we all saw the outcome,” he added.

BN had its worst-ever electoral performance in 2022, winning just 30 parliamentary seats.

Zahid was speaking at the opening of the Negeri Sembilan BN convention today.

Also present were MCA president Wee Ka Siong, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, and leaders from Friends of Barisan, including the Indian Progressive Front, Makkal Sakti, Parti Punjabi Malaysia, and Kimma.

In his speech, Zahid also appeared to make veiled remarks aimed at Umno supreme council member Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

“Party loyalty is paramount. Avoid betraying the party or jumping ship. Political stability is key to serving the rakyat effectively and staging a comeback,” the Umno president said.

Zafrul is mulling leaving Umno to join PKR but has not yet made a decision.
