PKR Youth has called on BN to stand firm against political sentiments Perikatan Nasional has stirred up over the royal addendum involving former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

The wing’s information chief Nabil Halimi made the appeal following a barrage of criticisms from the opposition, particularly PAS, targeting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan on the issue.

PAS leaders, including party president Abdul Hadi Awang, have accused Harapan of treason, releasing a flood of statements aimed at discrediting the coalition government.

In response, Nabil emphasised the achievements of the Harapan-BN collaboration under the Madani government, including increased investments, controlled inflation and international recognition of Malaysia's progress.

“These joint efforts must continue, undisturbed by sentiment-driven politics or tactics aimed at destabilising the unity government,” he said.

“Let us not allow such political manoeuvres to disrupt the unity we have built for the nation’s sake,” he added.

PN insincere

Nabil also accused the opposition of exploiting the royal addendum for political mileage.

He questioned the sincerity of their stance, highlighting their previous criticism of Najib's role in the 1MDB scandal.

“This apparent shift in their position raises questions about their sincerity and underlying motives,” he added.

The controversy erupted after the Court of Appeal granted Najib leave to initiate a judicial review compelling the home minister and the government to enforce an alleged decree by the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which could allow Najib to serve his prison sentence under house arrest.

The decision sparked calls for Anwar's resignation and demands from a Malay NGO for the rulers to investigate claims of a cover-up regarding the royal addendum.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified yesterday that the Prison Department had not received any directive from the Federal Territories Pardons Board to allow Najib house arrest.

He stated that the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had only instructed the halving of Najib's prison sentence to Aug 23, 2028, and the reduction of his fine to RM50 million.
