Summary
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa says 182 police reports have been lodged against Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s book titled “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey”.
He also said his team has recorded statements from 59 individuals.
However, the police have yet to record a statement from Yeoh.
A total of 182 police reports have been filed against Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s book, which has been accused of promoting Christian proselytisation.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa disclosed that statements have been recorded from 59 individuals as part of the ongoing investigation.
“We have not yet recorded the minister’s statement and no date has been set for this,” Rusdi (above) informed the media this morning.
PAS and other groups targeted the book over translated excerpts from her autobiography, in which she speaks about how her Christian faith became an issue again on social media.
Her critics focused on her description of herself as an “ambassador of God” - interpreting it as an attempt at evangelising.
Previously, the Kuala Lumpur High Court dismissed Yeoh’s defamation suit against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan, who had alleged that the DAP lawmaker was attempting to turn Malaysia into a Christian nation.

Yeoh has since lodged a police report and filed an appeal in the case.
Last month, in her defamation lawsuit against Universiti Utara Malaysia lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff over his two Facebook posts made in May 2017 regarding the matter, she pointed out that her book, titled “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” had been printed 18 times and was never banned by the Home Ministry.
“On the pages of ‘Becoming Hannah’, it is explicitly stated that it is a personal experience or personal journey. This book has been reprinted many times over the years and was never banned by the Home Ministry.
“The defendant’s posts were clearly published with the intent to offend, insult, and defame me by portraying me as a politician attempting to spread Christianity through my career in politics,” she added.
