English newspapers

The New Straits Times and the Sun both led with the Lingam tape panel of inquiry's appeal for the whistle blower and the public to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The panel, formed on Sept 27, is given one month to complete investigation. They began their meeting to probe into the tape yesterday.

The Star headlined on the government's suspension of hiring Bangladeshi workers. The government felt that their employment caused numerous problems.

Malay newspapers

Both Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia also reported on the panel of inquiry's appeal for the Lingam tape maker and members of the public with evidence to appear and assist in the investigation.

Chinese newspapers

Sin Chew Daily reported on a temple medium who is wanted by the police for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl under his care.

Oriental Daily News reported about two policemen who were charged with 14 counts of forging witness statements and using forged documents.

Tamil newspapers

All three Tamil dailies Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan and Makkal Osai - carried a warning by MIC vice president S Sothinathan to PPP president M Kayveas, asking the latter to stop accusing MIC of not doing anything for the Indian community.

Makkal Osai also reported on complaints by several residents in Subang that a Hindu cemetery in their neighbourhood has been illegally converted into an orchid orchard by a businessman.

Editorial

The New Straits Times and the Sun commented on the performance indicator system or the usage of 'stars' to measure and ensure the efficiency of the local councils.

Berita Harian too felt that a 'star' rating system should be implemented in measuring the performances of local councils nationwide.

Utusan Malaysia urged that action be taken on careless and lazy deputy public prosecutors (DPP), citing past examples where serious charges were dropped due to factors mentioned above.

Malaysia Nanban commented on a potential toll hike beginning Jan 1 next year and said that any increase should not overly burden the consumers.
