PAS ready to propose Samsuri's replacement as PN treasurer-general

PAS has expressed readiness to propose a candidate for the Perikatan Nasional treasurer-general post following Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar’s resignation.

Deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the Islamist party is waiting for PN supreme council meeting before it can do so.

“We haven’t (proposed a candidate). We’re waiting for PN supreme council meeting.

“We have no problem with proposing a candidate,” Tuan Ibrahim (above) told Malaysiakini today.

On Dec 11, Samsuri, who is a PAS vice-president, announced his resignation as PN treasurer-general.

This was a day after a reshuffle in PN positions - to reflect changes in Bersatu's leadership - which saw former Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali being appointed as the coalition’s secretary-general.

PAS had been lobbying for the post and Samsuri's resignation was perceived as a protest against Bersatu keeping that post.

Samsuri said a day after his announcement that he would issue a statement when the time was right and that the party leadership was handling it.

The Terengganu menteri besar's only comments on his resignation were a veiled social media post in which he quoted American basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar saying: “I try to do the right thing at the right time. They may just be little things, but usually they make the difference between winning and losing.”
