The Housing and Local Government Ministry has continued its commitment to fostering unity and cultural harmony by adorning its main lobby with vibrant Chinese New Year decorations in anticipation of the upcoming celebrations next week.

Undeterred by criticism for hosting a Christmas celebration last December, Nga Kor Ming reiterated his ministry's dedication to promoting Malaysia’s multicultural identity through inclusive festivities.

“This celebration is part of our continuous effort to strengthen unity among the people and foster goodwill among Malaysia's diverse communities.

“At the Housing and Local Government Ministry, we are proud to celebrate major cultural festivities such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Christmas, and Chinese New Year.

“Celebrations like these enhance inter-ethnic relationships and further strengthen the harmony of our plural society,” he said in a statement today.

Minister welcomes all to open house

Nga emphasised that unity in diversity and racial harmony remain critical pillars of Malaysia’s success.

To mark the occasion, the ministry will host a Chinese New Year open house on Feb 6 which will include performances such as lion dances and traditional Chinese New Year songs, aligned with the Year of the Snake theme.

All are invited to join, Nga added.

Last year, opposition figures and certain groups criticised Nga over his ministry’s Christmas celebration for its inclusion of carols and festive decorations.

The minister defended the celebration, asserting that such events reflect the spirit of Malaysia’s diversity and unity.
