Reform agenda still underway, says Amanah Youth

Amanah Youth today claimed that Pakatan Harapan's reform agenda is still underway under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

However, its youth chief Mohd Hasbie Muda said the process will take some time.

“Actually, all of this (the reform process) is underway, but it does take time.

“That is why we have always insisted that several reforms be expedited, including the separation of powers between the attorney-general and the public prosecutor, (amended to) the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and Sedition Act 1948.

“And we (Amanah Youth) are confident that the government under the leadership of the prime minister is indeed moving in that direction, God willing,” he said at a press conference at the Amanah Youth national convention in Klang, Selangor.

Hasbie was asked about the dissatisfaction of some parties, who questioned the seriousness of the government in implementing its past reform promises.

Last November, Bersih gave the Madani government a “D grade” in its mid-term evaluation due to the latter's failure in carrying out significant institutional reforms.

The electoral watchdog reform group also ranked Anwar behind his predecessors Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Dr Mahathir Mohamad in fulfilling their reform promises.

Bersih chairperson Faisal Aziz said their assessment of the government’s first two years found there were significant gaps between its reform promises and actual implementation.
