Top PAS leaders keeping mum while members slander others? - PKR MP

A PKR lawmaker has questioned PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s silence over party members spreading slander.

Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari also asked why the PAS ulama wing has not chastened those who disseminate defamation.

"If they truly adhere to the teachings of Islam, then why do they remain silent when slander becomes a culture in the party?" he said in a statement.

This came after Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria falsely accused DAP leader Hannah Yeoh of being the YTL Corporation Berhad founder's daughter. He later apologised after the minister called him out.

Despite the apology, Yeoh told the PAS leader to await legal action as “slander cannot be permitted and normalised, particularly by a man of religion.”

Another PAS lawmaker, Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad, was also embroiled in a lawsuit with DAP leaders after she made claims tying them to a communist leader, which she lost.

Walk the talk, repent

Taufiq said that in Islam, repentance must be practised through actions and not just preached about.

"Not just talking about sin and reward when it benefits them, but practising it in their own lives and politics.

"Islam teaches us about truth and justice - not using religion to justify evil," he said.

Taufiq called out PAS leaders, including Razman and Siti Mastura, for repeating slander in their talks.

"Even though they have been sued and found guilty in courts, they continue to repeat the same things without remorse," he said.

He called on all to reject such behaviour which should not be normalised.

"Don't give face to PAS leaders who use slander as a political tool just because they claim their struggle is in the name of Islam.

"Islam does not allow slander and lies, no matter the reason," he added.
