A helicopter accident has resulted in the death of an engineer after he was allegedly struck by the rotor blade when the aircraft overturned and caught fire in Bentong, Pahang this morning.

The incident occurred around 10.30am near a hot spring along Jalan Lama Kuala Lumpur-Bentong when a Bell 206L4 helicopter landed at the location to refuel.

The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department said that its personnel arrived at the scene at 10.52am.

"According to eyewitness reports, the helicopter was on the ground while the refuelling process was underway.

"It then reportedly lost control, overturned, and caught fire. The pilot, an Indonesian national, survived, while an engineer, also an Indonesian national, was killed.

"The victim is believed to have been struck by the helicopter's rotor blade,” the department said in a statement.

It added that the helicopter was completely destroyed in the incident.

A total of five officers and personnel from the Bentong Fire and Rescue Station, along with a fire engine, were involved in the operation.

Acting Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Ahmad Fadillah Wan Abdul Rahman said the fire suppression and containment operation was carried out using two hose lines from a fire engine pump.
