Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia today said it will launch flights to the Laos capital of Vientiane and Indonesia's tsunami-hit Banda Aceh from November.

"With Vientiane on the list, AirAsia will now be flying to all the Southeast Asian countries," chief executive officer Tony Fernandes told AFP .

Fernandes said fares from Kuala Lumpur to Banda Aceh will start from RM9.99 plus surcharges and taxes, while the carrier has not fixed the price for Vientiane.

Fernandes said AirAsia will mount four flights a week to Vientiane and three flights a week to Banda Aceh.

"We have a social obligation to help new economies grow. We want to help the people in Aceh to get back on their feet," he said earlier this year when announcing plans to fly there.

Impoverished Aceh bore the brunt of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, with more than 130,000 of its people believed to have perished.

Fernandes also said that AirAsia will next month increase its flights to Macau to four times a week from three, and will hand out 5,000 free tickets.

AirAsia was launched as a budget carrier in December 2001 with just two aircraft. It now offers more than 100 domestic and international flights throughout Southeast Asia.
