Police have launched an investigation into a fracas during a Kuala Selangor PKR division meeting on Saturday after a woman lodged a report claiming she was threatened during the incident.

In a statement, Kuala Selangor district police chief Azharudin Tajuddin confirmed receiving the report on Saturday and the case is being investigated the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

"A woman who attended the Kuala Selangor PKR division meeting lodged the report.

"She said she was threatened by a man who told her to 'pick up a machete', after which the man then approached and provoked her," he said.

Azharudin also urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist the police probe.

Going viral

A video clip supposedly showing the incident has since gone viral on social media.

This included Edisi Siasat Telegram channel which posted the clip with a caption alleging that the commotion was caused by gangsters hired by incumbent Kuala Selangor PKR division chief Thiban Subramanian.

Thiban has since denied the allegation and has lodged a police report against the Telegram channel and other social media accounts that carry the claim.

According to Thiban, who uploaded a video statement last night, the fracas involved a group of PKR members who tried to do provocation during the meeting.

"Some commotion occurred outside before the group re-entered the hall.

"This was when the group recorded the incident, perhaps they have planned to make it go viral to sensationalise the issue," he said.
