The nation scored 5.955 on the Life Evaluation Index, compared to 5.975 the year before.
Among Asean member states, Malaysia placed fifth, according to the poll.
The report stated that Malaysia was among the top four countries globally where residents reported sharing the most meals together.
“Malaysians share approximately 11 meals per week with others,” the poll said.
Among Asean member states, Singapore came in first in 34th position, followed by Vietnam in 46th and Thailand three places down.
Indonesia came in 83rd, followed by Laos (93rd), Cambodia (124th) and Myanmar a further two spots down.
Nordic happiness
Nordic countries once again lead the happiness rankings, with Finland topping for the eighth consecutive year, with a score of 7.736 on the Life Evaluation Index.
Denmark, Iceland and Sweden were second to fourth respectively, and still in the same order.
On the other end of the spectrum, Lebanon (145th), Sierra Leone (146th) and Afghanistan (147th) were the least happy countries.
The report, in conjunction with the UN’s International Day of Happiness, was conducted in partnership with the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the World Happiness Report’s editorial board.
About 1,000 individuals are surveyed per year in each country.
A total of 147 nations and territories were surveyed in the poll.
