112 rescued from gas pipeline fire, flames getting smaller
In an update around 4pm, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said 190 houses, 148 cars and 11 motorcycles have been damaged by the fire.
About 112 victims have been rescued from the area after a gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, caught fire.
In an update around 4pm, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said 190 houses, 148 cars and 11 motorcycles have been damaged by the fire.
"House fire overhaul and cooling work is also being carried out," it added.
Before this, the department said as of 1.55pm, 49 houses have been affected by the flames.
“The operations commander reported that the fire was getting smaller and the gas was decreasing,” it said.
In another report from Bernama about 4pm, department director-general Nor Hisham Mohammad said it is too early to determine the cause of the fire.

"I think it's a bit early for us to make a statement (regarding the cause of the incident), so the investigation will be carried out led by the police, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, and related agencies to identify the cause of the incident.
"When the investigation is complete, we will state the cause of the incident. For now, there are various statements from different parties, but we cannot make an early confirmation," he said.
Receiving treatment
Previously, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s aide Jay Jay Denis said 12 injured victims received treatment at the Nurul Iman Surau and Sri Maha Kaliaman Temple.
They are now at a temporary evacuation centre at the Putra Heights Masjid multipurpose hall, he said.
Earlier, the department said six victims had been hospitalised after the fire.
Two were sent to the Cyberjaya Hospital and four are undergoing treatment at the Serdang Hospital, it said in a statement this morning.
“Petronas has closed the valve of the burning pipeline 14km from the fire. The fire has affected several nearby houses.
“The gas pressure in the pipeline has dropped to 0.1 of 40 bar,” the department said.
500m of pipeline on fire
According to the initial FRD report, the fire was caused by a gas pipeline leak, with an estimated 500m section of the pipeline engulfed in flames. The fire was raging intensely, with flames soaring into the air.
It said the incident occurred near a residential area, prompting firefighters and other agencies to evacuate residents in the vicinity.
Separately, the Environment Department (DOE) was quoted by Bernama as saying it will carry out air quality monitoring in the area affected by the blaze.
DOE director-general Wan Abdul Latiff said Selangor DOE earlier deployed a team to conduct a preliminary assessment at the site.
“The public is advised to avoid areas near the fire,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Al-Falah USJ 9 Mosque in Subang Jaya has been opened to those affected by the fire.
In a post on Facebook, it said it remains open to individuals or families in need of temporary shelter or a place to rest.
“Please contact the mosque representative at 03-80116949 or come directly to the mosque if you need any assistance,” the post read.
